I don’t drink but I wanted to take a shot every time they said “you know” just to feel something (this was so bloody boring I was losing my mind)
I get that this was revolutionary for the time but I am from this time and so for me this was meh. I understand that this is a woman who’s only been in one relationship going through divorce but like, the centring of men still in her journey towards ‘independence’ or well, boundary setting in my opinion, is so frustrating. I mean, the women in my life who’ve gone through divorce have certainly not centred men post. But I guess it does make up for it in the sense there’s this general apathy towards them near the end.
Really enjoyed the relationships between Erica and Patti and Erica and all her friends. Loved the beginning scene where she dances to Swan Lake in her underwear, as well as ice skating with her friends and then dragging a giant fuck ass painting through Manhattan. Wished there was more of that then her unsuccessful dates and then successful ones with the artist with the terrible beard.
With fifteen minutes left in the film I realised that Elaine was played by Kelly Bishop and that fact alone kept me going to finish the rest.
Side note: I have never watched a film where kissing literally made me cringe and frown. Did they not know how to kiss in the 70s or?
