“There's no local crumpet. It's married or virgin here, you know. And that priest down there's got eyes in the back of his head.”Wow..
A small and simplistic story told with a massive scope and excruciating runtime, this could only be made by
David Lean, this shit should be illegal! The end result though is rather fascinating.. I think the
plot is spread rather thin with just how long it is - got pretty exhausting.. but honestly I’m such a massive whore for these gigantic spectacles that I’ll let it slide. Genuinely fell in love with the cinematography. Every shot is amazing, everything looks like a oil painting, arguably prettier than
Lawrence of Arabia. The backdrop of the Irish Rebellion is intriguing too. Though it feels like he could’ve done more with the story and setting, especially with how long it is.. but he didn’t.. and honestly I don’t care.
Overall,The romantic plot is not strong enough to support the scale and length this movie got, but since the technical aspects and performances are so good, you almost won’t notice.
Highly recommend! —————-Btw:
I’m going to a festival in The Netherlands so I won’t be very active on LB in the coming week.. mostly because I’m gonna be sleeping in a tent.. and doing drugs.
