i thought i’d give this film another chance because i might like it more but this movie is still okay. i still think the animation is the best part of the film, gripping the initial realism of junky and stupid hollywood. how entertaining can you make a film about degenerates, not that entertaining.
with the amount of relevant topics this film discusses, all of it is overshadowed by objectified sexism. they can include the idea of fame’s negative impact on one’s mentality and psychology but then it moves to a shot of boobs. this happens continuously. it could also be a ridiculing play on how hollywood objectifies women but it’s not working and ultimately becomes what it’s trying to ridicule.
i really tried to love this film but there’s so much wrong morally and the writing of its humor is just trying so hard to be bold but it’s lame and sad. not much serious issues tackled the right way like mental health or isolation from societal standards.
