One of my favourite favourite favourite Bollywood films ever made. The cinematography is so stunning, the way it's shot and lighted truly added sm to the film. And down to every single detail this is perfect. It's amazing how this was one of Raj Kapoors first directorial ventures and possibly my favourite of his, he is a fascinating director I must admit. And he truly was a wonderful actor in this film. He truly led this on his own shoulders. I loved so many of the shots in this film, so iconic they are. One of my favourites is when Nargis and Raj Kapoor are on the beach at night, and the wind is blowing in her hair. It's such a heartfelt moment. That dream sequence has to be oke of the most impressive sequences ever and featured possibly my favourite song from this film "Ghar Aaya Mera Pardesi". Leela Chitnis and Prithviraj Kapoor were truly good imo. I love how this blended many genres such as a crime, comedy, musical, melodrama. Although not a film noir, I feel like it has a ton of aspects. Now Nargis is possibly the greatest actress of this era. She's so good in this role, words cannot describe her. She has such a commanding presence and so much aura. The way she carries herself and the way she expresses her words, through a wonderful script. Her character is somewhat progressive, a female lawyer in an era and a country that believes women are just good for housewife, that too me is astonishing that this idea of a female lawyer was accepted. She also broke boundaries by wearing a swimsuit, unprecedented in Indian cinema. I can't leave this review without mentioning all the playback singers such as Mukesh and ilysm Lata Mangeshkar, best singer ever. The theme of this film is very interesting, it talks about how society makes criminals rather than criminals being born to criminals and respectable people being born to respectable people. This is a very progressive film. One of the best Indian films, in fact one of the best films of all time. This is such a great film.
