What a forgotten classic, this film came out the same year as Young Frankenstein which rightfully took the world by storm and overshadowed the OTHER Gene Wilder movie that came out that year. I liked this a lot more than I thought I would because it is clear in its messaging and its point but it is also so insanely absurd. The movie is about people changing into Rhinos. And then you find out they are choosing to and it's like fascism. It's now this war between people choosing to be people and people choosing to be a rhino. This film has heavy flaws namely the love story. But Gene Wilder and Zero Mostel absolutely carry this film. Zero gives an insane but brilliant performance as a man slowly turning into a rhino and giving us a glimpse into the crutelty and anger he feels as a human being. But he is even outshined by Gene Wilder here. I've never seen Gene Wilder not steal every single scene he is in without a doubt and this is no exception. He begins as such a shy and timid man trying to win the girl over. But he slowly builds to become so filled with anger and hate. The last 15ish minutes is just him alone debsting what to do and the. cursing out everyone who has bandied him as a human. An amazing breakdown scene that I'm surprised isn't talked about more
