“Oh Amuro… I can see time.”

Of the three compilation movies, this absolutely stands head and shoulders above the other two. A lot of that is down to the sheer amount of redone animation across the whole film. It’s no secret that the original shows production was fraught with problems and the final entry in the compilation trilogy was Tomino’s and Yasuhiko’s opportunity to fix up as much as possible. It’s not a complete redo, made much more obvious by, as mentioned in my review of the first movie, the wonderful presentation on the 4K disc (subtitle issues aside). The shots, sequences and scenes presented as is from the original TV run are noticeable step down now, almost having a paper-like quality to them as well as slightly different colouring in things like uniforms, hair, skin tones etc., bringing a whole new appreciation to the effort put into this one.

I think this is why my score has gone up compared to last time, along with a slightly different outlook on how to approach this trilogy. And that’s to see specifically this entry, Encounters in Space, as a companion piece to the original show. The original TV show offers a more complete tale, better characterisation, development and a wider appreciation for the ensemble cast of characters that the movies simply don’t have time to focus on. If I had more time to rewatch the entire TV show in the run up to why I’ve been rewatching the trilogy now, I would have done so and concluded with watching Encounters in Space to get a complete and definitive version of the final story arcs. But alas, I’m glad I had the chance to see the whole trilogy in its 4K incarnation as it truly is a much better upgrade than I expected.

For the last but not least. Everything in the story reedemed on this one. What i waiting for, actually happening on final. Pure nemesis fight, prove which sides is better, and peak politics crashed out. There is one quote that i need to type on this review but not spoil anything crazy(i wish). "At last, even Hitler's followers is trying to kill him in the end." One last lines and to close it all(i lied). This is a long journey, probably a hundred or more episode to watched, Universal Century is a tough watch, it felt like a vintage book with tons of pages in it. But everything is redempted, my desire fulfilled, it is very fun, could not believe in the 80's there is artstyle like that around, with interesting yet twistting plot, not to forget the action scenes. I need to be end this timeline soon and yes this is my target of the year.
