“Filthy polluted oceans, filthy polluted air
Living things will no longer exist
Fields... mountains...
Become silent
On the Earth there is nobody
Nobody around who can cry”
Oh my god… This is probably my absolute favorite movie from the Showa era. I love how it tackles the consequences of humanity’s impact on the environment. Just like Godzilla represents the trauma of nuclear weapons, Hedorah is the perfect personification of environmental pollution
I’m obsessed with how they blended the actual movie with those animated segments to protest against pollution. It’s actually so cool that they used a Godzilla movie to tell people to wake up and protect the environment before we hit a total ecological disaster
The way they showed actual skeletons and dead body parts in the sludge was so terrifying… It gave the movie such a disturbing vibe that fits the story perfectly, it’s definitely not one of those goofy comedies like half of the Showa movies
Also, the human story in this one is actually top-tier🙌 Don’t get me wrong, I’m not one of those people who only watches kaiju movies for the monsters and finds the humans boring, BUT HERE… the characters actually stick with you. That little boy is so smart and such a cutie, especially when he shouts “Sayonara, Godzilla!” at the end, MY BABY😭
P.S. Those shots where the focus shifts to Godzilla punching toward the camera are literally iconic
I’m 100% adding those to my gif collection👊 AND THAT MOMENT WHERE GODZILLA USED HIS BREATH TO FLY WHILE TUCKING HIS TAIL? WTF, THAT WAS SO RANDOM AND FUNNY 😭😭
