I remember this being the worst one in this era. My eyes have now been opened to Spacegodzilla actually being pretty cool. This was the one I was bitching about for 3 paragraphs about how there’s two explanations for how spacegodzilla happened, G-cells attaching to mothra when she flew to space or when biolantte turned to dust and went to space. Either explanation is fine and in the context of the original Japanese cut neither are treated as 100% what happened they’re both theories and then they move on. Godzilla’s son is back In this one looking adorable with his big ol’ eyes and mothra makes some weird appearances because they’re not her they’re little tiny mothra’s that the psychic girl has visions of that warn her of the dangers to the planet which is… odd. Either way beyond that I actually ended up liking the human characters quite a bit in this one and I remember that was always something I just could never like about this one when I was a kid. I think it has to do with actually watching the original Japanese cut instead of the English dub. While this era had more accurate dubs, they were always pretty bad and I think that kind of took me out of it. Here everything no matter how ridiculous is treated with the utmost seriousness and that really helps to keep the tone in place. No I’m just shocked I liked this one as much as I did. I wasn’t looking forward to rewatching it but dammit it won me over in the end.
