With their golden era long behind them, comedy duo Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy embark on a variety hall tour of Britain and Ireland. Despite the pressures of a hectic schedule, and with the support of their wives Lucille and Ida – a formidable double act in their own right – the pair's love of performing, as well as for each other, endures as they secure their place in the hearts of their adoring public

I’m all for biopics about famous figures focusing on one section or event of their lives versus a full start to finish career perspective but surely there had to have been a more interesting segment of their lives than this. We talk so much about Oscar Bait but rarely acknowledge its sister genre: BAFTA bait. Coogan and Reilly innocent but it’s tough when the first hour or so of the film has such little narrative energy.
