Love how Southern Gothic it was at the start I wish that it leaned into it more. The mishmash of influences and different directions the film wanted to/could have explored are saved by an extremely tight script and excellent performances all round even from the kid actor.
Unfortunately there was a sheen that came along with so many affected Southern accents and the back seat that Black people occupied in this narrative. There also was not enough room for conflict with all the gimmicks this script wanted to get through.
However:
