Bloody Moon is the nasty, gory slasher I’ve been craving for quite a while.

The kills are excellent, with the saw beheading standing out as the film’s highlight. The score and setting complement each other well, creating a pleasantly eerie atmosphere. Both the opening and ending scenes are particularly strong.

However, the movie loses some momentum midway through, mainly due to its extremely flat and uninteresting characters. Even the protagonist, Angela, falls into the tiresome cycle of never being taken seriously, which quickly becomes repetitive and dull.

Despite its flaws, Bloody Moon is worth watching for the kills alone.

The things that tear this down from being good is that odd incest side plot, the poor depiction of hysteria and stupid characters and the constant view of perverted tendencies. I really wanted to have some fun with this movie especially when the kills were decent. There are many moments where it’s just stupidity without any funny aspects to balance them out so it all felt pale. 

The male gaze tends to ruin films like this for me since there’s always a moment that deals with sex and leads to a kill. All this was excluding the deaths was women talking men and sex and men getting in bed with women. I thought the end had a good twist though but that incest thing is a no-go. 

The cinematography and editing were good. I especially like how it captures the look on the characters’ faces when they meet their demise. The whole vibe shift from innocent and comforting to weird and violent was a positive aspect to me. Overall, this is by no means a terrible movie but I wouldn’t revisit this as nothing stands out.
