After "Cannibal Hocaust" the second Italian cannibal film I've seen and I'm still not sure if I like this sub-genre.
The film is too long and too slow and it takes quite a long time for cannibal action to take place. When the third act finally gets down to business, I was quite disappointed, because many of the disgusting and shocking moments last far too long and do not add anything to the plot or the film in general which is totally legitimate, but somehow bothered me here. The film feels very aimless in the last third and the violence is exhausted for an unnecessarily long time and only serves the purpose of disgusting the viewer. In my opinion, “Cannibal Holocaust” does this better, since much of the violence kinda pursues a goal. As in the above, there is unfortunately real animal cruelty here, which is totally unnecessary. I also found the violence from animal to animal unnecessary and too long. The film also doesn't manage to achieve the uncomfortable atmosphere of Deodato’s film, nevertheless, I really liked the score, cinematography and acting, even if the characters and plot don't really matter.
