Holy fuck this is one of the weirdest things I’ve ever seen. I loved it. Great atmosphere. Love the way the narrative flipped on its ass. And the practical effects and production design ? Wow.

#1: never trust a rich man’s version of an "ideal world" (especially if he owns an island)

#2: cool stuff, and it’s especially cool considering this came out in the 60s. it was certainly ahead of its time. not perfect, but it was eccentric and visually interesting enough to keep me hooked throughout most of the runtime

i was hoping for some bizarre and absurd plot involving a cult that deals with malformed men but i didn’t get that until 70 mins into the film. at one point i was digging the whole mysterious lost identity thing for a while. but as the film continued on, it got worse and worse.

it began to get terribly melodramatic and strangely and ugly erotic explanations to unveil parts of the story. the screenplay was like a first draft, it was written scene to scene without any sense and continuity. horrors of malformed men doesn’t know what it’s doing or what it’s trying to be.
