I’ve been searching for A Blade in the Dark for a while and finally found it.
It’s a very interesting giallo. The mystery is well laid out, and the characters are engaging enough. Its biggest strengths are the haunting score and the brutal murder scenes—especially that bathroom scene, which might have become one of my favorite kill scenes in any movie ever.
The final reveal, however, was a bit disappointing. I was hoping for a bolder, more shocking approach, but instead, they went with the most cliché, Psycho-inspired choice they could find. It doesn’t detract from what makes the movie good, but it does prevent A Blade in the Dark from becoming one of the greats of the genre.
Overall, I enjoyed working through the mystery and really liked the atmosphere, though the ending was a bit of a letdown—at least for me.
