the next entry in deep cut horror, and this one kinda left me wanting more

this film is a slow burn psychological horror film, a group of women who need a hotel ask advice from this cheery guy, he allows them in his hotel with his introverted wife, but these friends go missing one by one. there’s a secret man hiding in the basement, and he kills these girls. it’s a lot more character driven, focusing on the dread of this twisted, incestuous family dynamics. the first hour is extremely slow, building atmosphere up for the final frantic act. there’s not much gore, or a high body count. this film is a slasher in the texas chainsaw massacre kinda way, an inbred family torturing a girl, with focus on characters rather than being a complete blood bath. this film is pure grindhouse 80s slasher trash, with its unhinged bizarre story and it’s completely unpolished, even somewhat gritty. the performances are surprisingly strong, the inbred disable son, while only partly being it the actor really nicely portrays a mentally disturbed son who lacks socialisation and manipulated into that way of life, his father also gets performances very well : and he’s arguably the best element of this entire film, he seems like a really nice guy, with his positive tone and charisma, and more details get revealed as he abuses his sister/wife (yeah gross lol) and serves as a chilling villain all throughout. his sister is a submissive wife, who rarely talks. her despair was really represented well through this film, with blood curdling screams and eventually stands up to her brother/husband. and of course, the final girl who reminds me a lot of sally in the third act. the actings a little uneven, the plot is predictable for me viewing in 2025 and it’s just not what i was expecting- don’t get me wrong i still l enjoy this

Those last 20 minutes are good but the buildup is just kinda meh

reminds me a lot of fulci’s house on the cemetery. early 80s horror just has such a specific vibe. perfect rainy day viewing.

Three women go to Solvang and largely have no impact on the plot. Tony sucks. The death scenes are pretty grate but it’s way too into the twisted family drama. A little derivative and fails to maintain any menace.
