Top-tier slasher right here.
Nightmare is a film I won't forget anytime soon. This one has it all—sex, violence, sleaze, filth, gore... you name it, Nightmare has it (and dialed up to 11). It definitely borrows from a lot of films that came before it, but above all, I would describe it as a blend between Maniac and Halloween, leaning more toward the psychological approach we see in Maniac.
I really like how this film looks, especially during the scene where the killer is walking down the streets of New York. The kills definitely did not disappoint when it comes to execution and downright ruthlessness.
The flashback scene is the cherry on top. I admit it's very fake-looking, but that didn't bother me one bit. There's so much depravity, blood, and guts that you can't help but at least understand why this man became the way he is. The white background and scarlet red blood combo make for quite the unforgettable scene.
I would say this is an absolute must for any slasher/horror fan.
