Now this, this feels ahead of its time. The slow-mo sequence, the framing, the character work, it all feels very modern. This is what a lot of modern romance films try to do, but none like this.

I'm loving the consistent musicality to Jacques Demy's films so far - between this and Umbrellas of Cherbourg, it's clear the guy had a very particular and wonderful style.

Even with this style, I can also see how Wong Kar-Wai took from this to make Chungking Express - there is a similar emphasis on human relationship and how different people view and express love.

The central performance from Anouk Aimée is fantastic, and this was a joy to watch.
