there's something so incredibly camp and comforting about this. it's a product of late 90s early 00s sexuality obsession in partnership with a unique breed of judgement and has a messy ending that encapsulates that. Simon Callow and Harriet Walter genuinely give some of the greatest performances I have ever seen in my entire life and Tom Hollander wears some of the cuntiest outfits ever constructed. it's SUCH a mess but it feels very real. at points it's just absurd, every surrounding character gets the laughs and you're left very conflicted over Leo. I remember when I first watched this 2 years ago that I really did hate Leo, I was with Darren and Angie, I didn't like the massive change in direction and I was very much the projecting some weird conflictions I had myself. I've rewatched it many times since then and every time I feel something different and recognise more and more how fluid life is and how messy your surroundings can make it. I can totally see these events unfolding in a group of young adults today, but Sybil and Keith will go down in history no one can ever have what they had.
