A fascinating modern tragedy, which isn’t really a tragedy at all, in fact, it's quite the opposite.
Whereas in tragedies, evil and suffering are inevitable, something of which the characters are merely victims, this film is the exact opposite, telling the story of young people who could have avoided making the mistakes they do, who could have been happy without becoming criminals, but who cannot resist the temptation.
Cinematographically, this film has a very strong identity, from wide shots to extremely tight close-ups, from its frenetic pace to the gloomy urban settings of northern Germany.
The story isn’t overly complex; in fact, it’s structurally pretty simple and fairly straightforward, yet despite this, you never quite know what’s about to happen or how it will end: from the very first scene where a gun appears, you ask yourself: who will be shot? But right up until the moment it happens, the viewer has no idea.
