i honestly dont really know what was going on in this one, but it was cool to see a change of scenery in a kar-wai film. really beautiful like all his work, but i just wasnt really invested in this story.

i did watch the redux cut so i wonder how the original compares.

Ashes of Time is a really strange film from Kar-Wai that I didn't care for that much. I found the plot overly confusing and bizarre for virtually no reason except to add a sense of mysticism to the story that already exists in the form of the borderline psychedelic visuals. I'd take one or the other, but both is a bit much. It was pretty boring and overdramatic and while it is an action movie, there's not much of it and what is there could have been significantly better. Possibly my least favorite from him so far.

Kar-Wai unsurprisingly gets some style points and the score was nice. That's about it.
