This was a tuff watch on a few levels. First, obviously upsetting to watch a girl be kidnapped and raped.

Secondly, screaming at my tv for her to RUN!

Like get outta there girl. If I was abducted and had an opportunity to escape I wouldn’t stop legging it until I’m safe.

I really didn’t know Stephen Curry had that dog in him to do this kind of role but at multiple points in the movie he is just terrifying.

Also extremely upsetting to learn this was based off a Perth couple who also abducted, tortured and murdered women. Thank fuck they got caught and David Birnie killed himself.

Also more upsetting because Ashleigh Cummings plays Deb on Puberty Blues a series I treasure and rewatch at least once a year so it hurt a lot to watch this.

Disconcerting
It is occasionally interesting to watch film adaptations of true crime for the way that they tend to bring awareness and relevance to difficult subject matter however oftentimes it is not executed the way it should be. For instance, this film in particular had no issues with depicting extremely graphic violence exacted upon women but drew the line at depicting animal abuse. Truly so disturbing when even true crime falls victim to the fetishism of mainstream media.
