Tsui Hark brings more visual flair to this than John Woo did in the previous entries but everything else does take a hit. The action is still pretty good but the previous installments (especially the 2nd film) have some of the best shootouts of all time. The plot and characters are all well above average but this suffers from prequel syndrome so the stakes never feel very high. Still, Tsui harks kinetic direction leads to an incredibly entertaining picture.
