Understanding that growing up never ends. Like old dreams—some old dreams—like old friends.
It’s sort of not what one would expect from a documentary about a failed musical. Rather than go into depth about what went wrong and then tell the story of the aftermath and redemption of the legendary Stephen Sondheim (which would have been interesting), it tells the story of the cast members and how they’re lives changed and evolved after the musical. Which, while maybe not what I was expecting, was pretty heartbreaking but also beautiful to see.

There's a reason for everything. There's a reason why Merrily We Roll Along wasn't the breakout hit when it first came out, it needed Jonathan Groff, Daniel Radcliffe and Lindsay Mendez to be born and to be the cast that gave this story its redemption arc.
But it's crazy the amount of talent in that original cast, because yes, Jason Alexander but also, Giancarlo Esposito

I don’t normally like documentaries, but I was shown this by one of the people who worked on it so I felt the need to pay attention. It helped that it’s something I’m interested in.
