I love that the only special feature on the physical release is a "sound design featurette", as if that is something they are proud of. The sound design might be the worst part of the movie! So many times, a character asks "Did you hear that?". No! No I didn't fucking hear that because your sound mixing is terrible. "What is that sound?". I didn't even know there was a fucking sound because you ass holes can't figure out sound levels! Did you mean the score, because that's all I hear? It's not like this is the only issue though, as we miss tons of stuff because either everything is way too dark and we literally can not see it or they avoid pointing the camera at the action (probably because it's too much work to actually conduct the action) and we look at a wall while we hear everything happen to the left of the camera shot. The acting is mostly serviceable and for a movie of this caliber, the effects were okay (the birds were the only real issue), but all the technicals suck and the story is awful. It's poorly paced, very hard to follow, super repetitive, and it all leads up to a big "Huh?" at the end. Honestly, I'm not sure if there is a twist or not because there is no coherent story, so maybe they think it makes sense, but for me, it came out of nowhere. They set up so many things that they quickly drop and the only real through-line is "Woman stumbles around screaming and being weird". Is it scary? I don't think so; it's more annoying. I don't know if other reviews are pumping up their rating because it's a Spanish language film or what, because I don't think there is anything here worth celebrating other than it isn't nearly as bad as it could have been. It'd definitely bad, but it's not at the bottom of the scale.
