Hard to get more honest than this. It's a strange, musical sort of film that drifts in and out of mnesic vignettes, chipping away at your heart until the very end. I'm not really sure how you even construct this. Each scene is informed by something before it and some how two more after it. It's like you can see the entire lives of a few people being presented to you all at once. But it's not overly grand or overwhelming (in some ways); it just floats you through everything and lets you feel what's happened rather than explaining it or forcing you to analyse it. I did prefer The Long Day Closes by a hair just because of how much more it sort of hurt to experience
Regardless I think I'm going to have to catch up on all of Terence Davies stuff and I think you should too.
