2.6 AVERAGE RATING??? OMG Y'ALL ARE SOOOO BORINGGGGG!!!!!!
This was fun! This was camp! This was a damn good time!
I love the direction the filmmakers took with this. Very different from the original in terms of tone and subgenre.
I loved all the characters - even the jerks - and I loved the friendship between Alex and Shane, even if it isn't really developed. Sarah was a real diva and I loved her attitude. Mary Lou is also perfect in this, she has such a punk rock energy. All the performances are enjoyable too. Not oscar winning, but enjoyable. I love all the male teen characters in this, because theh don't behave in the way conventional male charcters in slashers act. Maybe it's just me but there was something almost homoerotic about the dynamics between the characters.
The costumes in this are so cool. They're really of their time, especially the leather jacket and leather jeans that Alex acquires near the end. And the different outfits Mary Lou puts on during her supernatural shenanigans.
The film is super camp and that's what I was in the mood for. The one-liners and dialogue are so deadpan, and the kills are so offbeat and creative, like the football pitch kill. Mary Lou's song-and-dance sequence is one of my favourites in the film. She's so goated in this.
I love the romance of the film. It reminded me of Lisa Frankenstein. The "protagonist develops a romance with an "othered" character" is lowkey my favourite trope ever. I love how Alex's confused reaction to everything is explored, as he is obviously scared but later in the film says that he enjoys it. He's such a great character and never feels one dimensional.
The film may not work for everyone but i genuinely adored it and i will defend it till my last breath. The best in the franchise for me. Period.
