Been a while to get around to this and it was really quite good
Had that same glorious melancholy I could have hoped for from another Denis film and while nothing in the nature world could hold a candle to Beau Travail for me for whatever reason, it’s still super nice to feel that creative presence somewhere else
Vague but idk how else to put it
But also makes complete sense even with a different cinematographer so don’t need it to not be vague
Anyway all this to just try and sort of say I had a really nice meditative time
It poked and examined all it could and then finally said what it had to say through some nice metaphors and monologues
Short or long or a drag or whatever it definitely worked for me to package up the previous film that came before it
My heads running empty with thoughts to be honest
But overall this really was a good good watch
I want to talk about the characterisation in this a bit but it’s not happening tonight it’s just not
For this film it feels very daunting but I thought the parallels and metaphors used through characters to like condense the political climate or whatever was really nicely done, albeit maybe sacrificed a bit of integrity to the characters as people ?
Idk you see what I mean like this isn’t happening
