Malibu Horror Story
I was the only one in the theater seeing this tonight. This movie actually creeped me out and had me a bit jumpy to be honest. There were some creepy sequences. The atmosphere here really works. Sadly this movie just too SO long to get into the actual good stuff. I was starting to doze off a bit in the first half honestly. But once it got to the meat and potatoes I felt more engaged. Some creative ideas that worked for me, and some that did not.

i honestly really enjoyed this a lot and one of the first movies to actually scare me in a long time.. i absolutely hate dark chase scenes so that’s where they got me (several times). i never got bored at all during this because it started off as a documentary then became real and the two dynamics blend so well. it was weird that it switched between found footage and not, but just ignore it and let it play out. the writing was super smart here and i liked most of it, but the dialogue was cringe at times and the lore/exposition was cheap. the performances were mixed but relatively good. the editing was also extremely well done and helped make this way scarier, like it was insane how much i enjoyed the editing for this.

overall a really good horror film that y’all should see in theaters. i can’t wait to see what this team puts out next.

Oh, bother. This uses found footage as an excuse but it’s just poorly shot. It looks the same when it’s a news program, archival tape, talking head interviews, and the news graphics look like stills rather than separately shot photos. Time isn’t real. I guess the drone stock is different but the kid getting a pro camera doesn’t explain it.

FF issues aside, it’s also uninteresting and ineffective.
