A movie that you really need to be in the right mindset for but I absolutely love this animation style I hope I find more from this era.
Presents a lot of moral dilemmas and interesting psychological concepts which fit right into the world building. I think the idea of all humanity regressing to their basic instincts bar a few lucky people is interesting. The moral questions are interesting but the answers to everything is just info-dumped by Sofia after every encounter but it’s honestly fine because it’s compelling? The inclusion of the giant robots helped with the sci-fi elements but I preferred the basic human ideas and questions when they were presented.
The story follows Wataru, an 80s action hero with a sweet hairdo, and Sophia, an all knowing person who can communicate with people with a sweet hairdo. The side characters include Johnny, a wheelchair bound genius who restores Wataru mind, Sue and little John, a father and daughter fleeing a religious ceremony, and a secret government community.
