Yardie is an interesting directorial debut from Idris Elba because it is well acted, well shot, well directed and has a killer soundtrack that you can tell had a lot of passion put into it, however the film never manages to fully hit it's stride.
The story remains engaging enough throughout but a lot of it comes across as very muddled once our main character reaches London. Also on a side note, what on earth was going on with Stephen Graham's character, there is times when he literally switches from a cockney to a Jamaican accent in the same sentence.
Overall, Yardie isn't bad but it's also not great, which I feel like it had the potential to be. Nonetheless, I do look forward to seeing what Idris Elba comes up with next because he is clearly very talented.
