makes me mad to give credit to this fucking scumbag, but roman polanski directs the fuck out of this, you can feel how personal this is to him considering he's lived through it all, i was always intimidated by this because of the track length and war films aren't really my thing, but this hooks you instantly and i was locked in during every second of this, the editing makes it fly by so fast, i didnt feel the track length whatsoever, every time you think its going to slow down, it never does, and i love a film that's exhilarating from start to finish, i felt so empty after finishing it, but i knew what i just saw was something incredibly special
theres just so much going on, almost too much to take in, i wasnt as emotionally pulled by this as i was intrigued by everything going on, but it still does hit me like a truck, adrien brody isnt even human in this, i dont understand how somebody can transform themselves into a role so well, theres one scene with him walking down the street, and that shit HIT me, and thats just ONE hard hitting scene out of like seven, everybody else is great, but he's giving one of the best of all time, theres a reason why he’s the youngest actor to win best actor at the oscars
it is bleak and heart wrenching, but there is some liveliness there, the cinematography feels so expansive, this is one of the best shot films ever made, it sounds absolutely incredible, its such an immersive and observational film making the atmosphere feel so lived in, the fact that this is based on a true story makes it hit even more, i still can't wrap my head around how ROMAN POLANSKI, one of the shittiest humans in history can make such empathetic films, i think i need a rewatch before giving this a 5/5, this is one of the most desolate and harrowing portrayals of WW2 ever made, this is pretty fucking amazing
