“yeah? well, you’re forgetting one thing about billy loomis.”
“what’s that?”
“i fucking killed him!”
the first sequel to the original 1996 film, and while it’s definitely weaker in comparison.. it’s still one of the better films of the franchise, and honestly quite memorable. it’s probably in the top 3 of scream movies that i’ve watched the most amount of times (behind both 1 and 4) and for good reason. it’s probably one of the best second films of any horror franchise, due to its similar meta tone as the original and the heightened stakes - as you really don’t know whether the main cast will live or die (through randy, or the near death experience of dewey). this movie, like the original: perfectly satires horror cliches - without it flaunting it in your face. this time around, it focuses more on sequels - considering this is a sequel itself. set pieces were fun, and the change of setting to a college campus is seriously fun and effective - the sorority house, the drama hall, the park area. it’s one the best looking films, and that’s maybe to do with its interesting aesthetic. the characters, especially the returning ones, were all really likeable with high amounts of chemistry - gale, randy, dewey and sidney coming back for the sequel is enough to make me enjoy it. i’m kinda mixed on both killers: and both motives felt undeveloped - but mrs loomis kills it in the final act, those eyes were terrifying…! it’s probably less groundbreaking, and the new characters all while generally likeable, were obvious canon fodder to expand the kill count from the first scream. it’s obviously not the best scream movie - but as sequels go, it’s honestly really fun.
