i was honestly kinda dreading this one - and now i get why. the first two acts were alright/fun, but oh god that finale put me to sleep. this movie has some things definitely going for it that other scream movies don’t really have - for instance, parker posey is here - and her campy performance as jennifer jolie single handily saves this film for me. jennifer’s one liners, fashion, posey’s delivery - it’s all perfect. i also liked how gale gets a larger role, as she was kinda overshadowed by sidney in both of the first films, sidney is mostly absent from the first two acts, which i was honestly fine with as the trio of jennifer, dewey and gale was all i really needed. the hollywood set was fun, probably could’ve been used better, but it’s definitely a funner location that allows it to make fun of more overused tropes. carrie fisher makes a cameo which was fun, and it tries to criticise creepy men in the film industry, and while the weinsteins produced this, it was still a generally good message. scream 3 also noticeably has a campier, lighter tone - with bizarre voice changers and lack of gore. the killer was extremely weak - missed potential completely, as he just wasn’t interesting, and easily the worst final act ever. i really don’t know what to truly give this - but i honestly added 2 stars alone on for parker posey and gales bangs.
