Bored with day-to-day life in New York City and neglected by her husband, a young wife and mother slips into increasingly outrageous fantasies: her mother breaking into the apartment, an explorer's demonstration of tribal fertility music at a party causing strange transformations, and joining terrorists to plant explosives in the Statue of Liberty.

There’s something about Barbra. I wish she would have made a million more films. She had something about her that I’ve never seen in another actress. A quality that was so original in the way she holds herself. In the way she smiles, shouts, fixes her hair. She is so beautiful in this movie, you almost believe she really is pregnant because she’s glowing!

She really said “women’s rights” with that one.

According to to her autobiography, this is Barbra Streisand’s self-considered most underrated film of her corpus. WHATTAMOUTHFUL.

I really liked it! Barbra kind of threw me off guard by describing this film as a European art film, it’s certainly not that, but it’s good independent-ish 70s feminist cinema. Something I really respect about ICON MOTHER is that she has always been really staunch in her political and social views. Since the beginning of her career, she’s pushed to tell tricky stories for people who need to hear them! She put goddamn (fictionalized) Fidel Castro in this movie!

There are pros and cons…the relationship moments are the strongest for me. I’m so fascinated by depictions of romantic jealousy. I’ve been reading a lot of Latin elegy lately…anyways. The Africa portion is horrible. Barbra also contracted a parasite while filming that section in Africa and it plagued her for a little while.

Also I finished the book…I thought I’d be able to read and watch but I read way too fast. It’s just my nature! I’m still going to watch more because I’m a little obsessed with her body of work!
