“No more advice please. No more advice. So many people have given me so much advice that my mind is stuffed with advice and is choking. Either stop your lectures, or go away.”
man. i don’t know what to say besides how strangely i feel seen by this film. dhritiman chatterjee is excellent, and his portrayal of the character of siddhartha chaudhuri is very well done.
i was particularly struck by something that happens rather early in the film, which is when chaudhuri is sitting down when the group of hippie american yuppies, probably on some sort of “spiritual trip” sit down near him and remark on how amazing calcutta and india as a whole are, when we as the audience, through chaudhuri’s perspective, know just how untrue that is. but the scene goes to show how ignorant people are from not just america but all around the world, choosing only to look at the positive side of what they want to see, while ignoring any real issue altogether.
