From the director of beloved children’s classic “Alvin and the Chipmunks” and the wholly underrated avant garde masterpiece known as “Muppets From Space” comes a heartwarming story about intergenerational differences with critiques about colonialism, corporate capitalism and includes multiple scenes involving violent civilian protest against the physical arm of the state, albeit unintentional.
Starring Robert De Niro, Uma Thurman, Christopher Walken and … Rob Riggle? The best of Scorcese and Tarantino casting fodder hold up very mediocre performances, not that there’s much to do with the script, clearly written with minimal character depth in mind.
This is, at best, a flawed attempt at making a direct-to-dvd Disney channel film and at worst, a paycheck for a director and actors with bills to pay, not that someone like Cheech Marin should ever be scraping by.
