Ingmar Bergman Deep Dive Pt. 10
What an interesting and unique film. I personally think the actor interview cuts are a stroke of genius, this would be a really good first Bergman film or just introductory to films in general. I think Liv Ullman and Max von Sydow are an all-time great acting duo, everything they've done together has been incredible (their acting is what I refer to, the films have just been anywhere from good to really good). I think this film's main theme was cruelty, whether it be in the small actions or the large ones (cough cough swinging an axe at your partner cough cough), it all adds up. The quiet, brewing resentment between couples is shown very well in this film, and the restraint both Liv and Max show is a real testament to their acting skill. I think this is one of Bergman's more forward-thinking and unique films, while also being one of his better ones.
