the animation style was absolutely fantastic. so flowy and peaceful.

sure, it had its downsides, the whole loveplot was unnecessary to me, and I would’ve liked to see more of the diary flashbacks sort of things

but this was a beautiful way to tell this story.

Ammetto che dall'autore di Valzer con Bashir mi aspettavo qualcosa di più: l'ultima opera del regista israeliano non soddisfa il mio palato, nonostante ciò però gli occhi ringraziano uno stile diverso dal solito e sicuramente più debole ma comunque particolare e piacevole.

Il film cade in un errore che era semplice commettere, ovvero il semplificare troppo la storia e renderla troppo spensierata: il viaggio di Kitty si trasforma in un viaggio quasi politico in cui le nefandezze compiute dai tedeschi nel passato si possono tranquillamente rivedere in alcuni partiti attuali, e Folman vuole farcelo vedere ma sbagliando approccio. L'armata rossa ad esempio viene rappresentata in maniera troppo esagerata per una storia del genere, trasformandosi in una specie di esercito di Skyrim o stile The Witcher. Anche la rappresentazione delle SS è veramente troppo semplificata, e a parer mio rischia di impedire ad un adolescente (fascia d'età a cui il film è chiaramente diretto) di comprendere appieno la storia.

Detto ciò comunque è sicuramente un film godibile con anche dei momenti memorabili, come per esempio il finale abbastanza dolce-amaro. Oltre a ciò ripeto che il parallelismo col presente è sicuramente riuscitissimo: ieri come oggi i perseguitati esistono e forse ce ne siamo dimenticati, tanto da far diventare il Diario simbolo di questi una semplice attrazione.

Il messaggio è potente e poteva essere eseguito molto meglio, anche perchè Folman abbiamo visto che ci sa fare.
