It’s a dreadful shame The Detective has the reputation of a generic late-sixties crime thriller when it’s a surprisingly well achieved and straightforward film.
Under the vision of early Coppola, Scorsese or even Polanski, this could have been a noir for the ages. But hey! That’s probably just me. I’d recommend.
