This was abysmal
I don’t mind things being on the nose in terms of films clearly being made for fans of a certain interest/band/art style etc however this was nauseatingly cheesy, in a film where a main character takes a stand against overly cheesy and cliched music.
This was less made for Smiths fans and more for Morrissey to appease him to get the rights to the soundtrack.
The most convincing performance, albeit only decent performance is from metaller Flash Thompson who does all the heavy lifting for the message of the film. I did like his line about “idols” aging and disappointing people which was a clear reference to modern Morrissey and his ability to show you can listen to more than one artist.
Past his self awareness everyone else is a caricature, from Siouxie and Robert smith making out in a shower, drag grace jones being a bouncer, “jocks” and Madonna cosplayers. The subtly of lyric referring dialogue is also nauseating.
