I'm always amazed at how downright evil Gene Tierney has the ability to be. This one is a bit different from the evil she embodies in Leave Her to Heaven, but it's a hellbound performance in its own right.
My first Josef von Sternberg flick that didn't star Marlene Dietrich, and it's great to see that he can take any classic beauty to a perfect movie with relative ease. With that said, this movie needs a restoration BAD. One of the worst I've watched in a long time. Can't wait to catch it again once that happens.
