You’re a Big Boy Now is one of Francis Ford Coppola’s early experimental films. This film in particular is a sex-comedy about a 19-year old who tries to get laid. While it has some funny moments, this film is not great.
Our main character is unfortunately insufferable. While he’s a naive 19-year old who just wants to get laid, he has a loyal girlfriend, Amy, and still calls her ugly and attempts to cheat on her. And in the end, he runs off into the sunset with Amy even after admitting he stayed multiple nights with another girl. I really just don’t get the film Coppola’s point completely, except for just making a funny film that really doesn’t land for me most of the time.
But it was cool to see that Bernard’s girlfriend is played by legendary actress Karen Black in one of her first acting roles, just before Easy Rider and Five Easy Pieces rose her to stardom.
