It would be easy to dismiss this film as being pedestrian and rote and too similar to a lot of coming-of-age dramas aimed at teens engaging in crime. What makes Deidra & Laney Rob A Train stand out, however, is the emotional weight behind it and an acceptance of artifice during key parts in order to heighten that emotional weight. The film is tight and concise, almost to a fault. You can definitely see where there were cuts to the story. However, that still makes for an entertaining enough story using familiar dynamics we had seen before
