An unexpected banger. I figured TCM fest should be for trying out random movies as well and I think I struck gold with this one. Introduced by Keith Carradine and our TCM goat Eddie Muller, It’s a 50s western but not all up on its high horse about morality and propaganda of America like the John Wayne movies. This played more like a noir with a flawed protagonist that is a total psychopathic villain. He’s like if Jake Paul was cowboy, a psychopathic gunslinger looking for clout in all the wrong places with all the money and family history to pay for those mistakes. God damn he’s nearly like Donald Trump Jr. This guy is a complete psychopath in being out for himself and killing anyone who gets in his way, and when charges come up, the witnesses are greased and the sheriffs too and it goes on until it goes too far. It’s quite an arc too with the dad coming to realize that his son is a piece of shit, and he himself is too. It’s all about that white horse. I feel like it was so metaphorical and poetic how it all came around. Definitely seek this one out.
