Where do I begin with Loveless. What a beautifully depressing film. What a way to show the darkest and bleakest side of humanity with no redeeming qualities. This film shows the vicious nature of humanity and how our hatred towards others causes pain towards everyone around us. It shows that hatred and anger only begets eternal suffering and any moment of happiness is fleeting until we restart this doomed cycle. The story is simple but executed extremely well. The ending is really great and I appreciate how it wraps the themes up while having an ambiguous ending. The cinematography is fantastic. It makes what would be an extremely slow film more visually engaging. There are scenes that go on for so long, but because the visual presentation is so great, it isn’t that bothersome. This film is really focused on the atmosphere and the themes which it excels at. The characters are really good in the sense that they do a great job at conveying the overall message and themes of the film. Mostly everyone is a really unlikable person, but you can’t help but have the tiniest bit of sympathy as you understand their very flawed mindsets in their search for happiness. God, Loveless is such a great film that I also connect with personally. I’m also never watching this again.

Depressing story of divorce and mystery 

The divorce arch of this story is so well done. The way that the director shows the pure hatred the two have on each other is amazing. The moving of the chair, heated arguments etc. 

The performances of the two actors is amazing conveys their emotions so strongly.

I also like the slow zoom the camera does in many scenes. Especially the scene out of the window. These help to convey time change. The scene where the colour has gone on the missing poster is great at showing the time change.

The middle of this film is the weakest personally just a bit to many long takes.  Also the political commentary im not to in depth with so I can’t rlly judge that.

The setting of this snowy Russia really helps to create this certain atmosphere that makes it feel so large and empty.

Both the mum and dad are rather unlikable both showing neglect to their child and not noticing for two days he’s missing.
