When I think of Al Capone, I’m not picturing an angel, but my mind goes more towards cartoon gangster than brutal murderer. If this was about a figure like Hitler, its unflinchingly cruel portrayal could go down a little easier.
There’s lot of hate for Hardy’s performance. I don’t think the voice is great, but especially as his condition worsens, he is very believable as a middle-aged man trapped in a failing mind and body.
It could be a really interesting story if it was less focused on Capone himself and more on the race of different forces trying to get this demented man to reveal where his treasures were hidden.
