A great improvement over ‘Moonage Daydream,’ in part because it’s rather less moon-eyed, instead presenting its points linearly (and mostly sequentially) and without attempting to refashion them to fit a pre- (and ill-) conceived narrative.

Probably should note that I was not a fan of the ‘Lazarus’ stage/film project and this did nothing to change that, but otherwise the songs are still good, the interviews with various collaborators are interesting, the Bowie clips are well chosen, but it’s still a sad ending and the abrupt cut off of the expected guitar riff at the very end of the film is extraordinarily effective.

Probably one of my favorite documentaries that I had the pleasure of watching this year. David Bowie is my absolute favorite artist of all time and it was the only time I was really gutted over a celebrity death. The Last Five Years gives an in depth look at the Last Five Years of his career and his final two albums “The Next Day” and “Blackstar” two of his most personal works and it’s just interesting hearing Bowie’s thought process from his colleagues who worked with him on the albums and the work that went into these albums. Really recommend this for any huge Bowie fans.
