I have an excuse to link this vine.I wouldn't say it was surprising to see the visceral reaction this movie got when it was released back in 2016; the political climate, the onslaught of 80s nostalgia, and the general disinterest in remakes/reboots.
Admittedly, I do have a soft spot for this movie, and I've seen it dozens of times now. I do see the issues this movie has, with some of the comedy being overexplained and taking away from the implied eeriness that they often present through the camera work and music. It is a competently made film, with many technical elements being stellar. The settings are fun, most of the effects look solid, and the on-screen chemistry is spot on. The four actresses build off each other well (Leslie Jones is my favorite as she adds a good dynamic to the scientists with her knowledge of history), even if it does hurt he film's pacing. Rowan is such a one-dimensional and played-up villain that it was very funny, and I enjoyed him more than the villains from Ghostbusters 2. Overall, I find this movie to be noble. Parts don't work, but there are enough appealing elements that make it watchable. It's a weird little experiment that I can get behind. There are comedy bits that work, and the action is fun. It's interesting that it got the backlash that it did.
I do need to talk about Bill Murray's cameo, because he looks like he would rather be anywhere else. You can see it in his eyes, his delivery, EVERYTHING. It reminded me of Chevy Chase in Nothing But Trouble. I swear he didn't film with the four ladies, because their faces are never in the same shot. We only see the back of his head, and it was making me laugh every single time.
