I couldn’t really get into this film, mainly because they made Machine Gun Kelly way too soft for my taste. In real life, he was Enemy Public No. 1 — a bank robber, kidnapper, and killer. But here, he mostly comes off as a fragile criminal, almost paralyzed by his fear of death, which makes him feel less credible and far less intimidating. That’s what disappointed me the most: I was expecting a tougher, grittier portrait that stayed true to his reputation as a notorious gangster.
