Is this the only non-movie to win the Palme D’Or? 

Yes:
- Stop motion animation introduction
- Esther Williams water ballet
- Operatic dance with unhinged ballgowns, especially you Ms. Butterfly
- Fred Astaire and Lucille Bremer jewelry thief dance. Opulent as fuck. The most insane candelabras ever conceived
- Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire number. Not incredible but it’s the only time they danced together and gosh, I just love em’ 
- Soap suds dance number finale, holy shit what a mess that must have made

I’ll allow it:
- Opening Number 
- Horse number 
- The Fanny Brice skit, except for the fact that it’s forced me to realize how inaccurate Barbra Streisand's performance is

No:
- Phone call skit
- Pay em the two dollars (minus the oversized judge podium) 
- Fred Astaire and Lucille Brenner opium den dance. I’m sure it’s well intentioned and the colors are lovely but yikes. 

Huh?:
- Lena Horne love number
- Guzzlers Gin ad skit? Not sure what was going on there
- Judy Garland skit. What the fuck was that?! Hardly any singing? Confounding.

The three ending numbers were so good, this truly felt they a movie in which they tried to get every single big name together. Like okay yessssss give me Lucille Ball, Esther Williams, Lena Horne, Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly AND Judy Garland. But truly the horrors of the racism in this picture is something that can’t be dismissed.
